Effects of Afterload Reduction on Global Left Ventricular and Regional Myocardial Functions in the Isolated Canine Heart
نویسندگان
چکیده
We examined the effects of graded reduction of afterload on the global left ventricular and regional myocardial functions as well as coronary hemodynamics in hearts with regional ischemia. We used isolated, paced canine hearts that were loaded with a hydraulic system that simulated the aortic input impedance of the dog's arterial tree. The loading conditions could be quantitatively and sequentially changed by the reduction of the systemic vascular resistance of the hydraulic system, while the preload was kept constant using a variable-height reservoir connected to the left atrium. The heart was perfused with arterial blood from a support dog. Mean coronary perfusion pressure was maintained equal to mean aortic

متن کاملEffects of afterload on regional left ventricular torsion.
OBJECTIVE To determine if left ventricular torsion, as measured by magnetic resonance tissue tagging, is afterload dependent in a canine isolated heart model in which neurohumoral responses are absent, and preload is constant. METHODS In ten isolated, blood perfused, ejecting, canine hearts, three afterloads were studied, while keeping preload constant: low afterload, high afterload (stroke v...
متن کاملThe effect of asafoetida essential oil on myocardial ischemic-reperfusion injury in isolated rat hearts
Objective: Previous studies reported that asafetida from Ferula assa-foetida Linn. species and its essential oil (AEO) have antioxidant effects. In the present study, the effect of AEO was evaluated on ischemic-reperfusion injury in isolated rat hearts. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups: 1) control group, 2) vehicle group, 3-5) AEO groups and, 6) car...
متن کاملHyperkinesis without the Frank-Starling mechanism in a nonischemic region of acutely ischemic excised canine heart.
To determine the essential mechanism of increased systolic wall motion, i.e., hyperkinesis, in a nonischemic region (NIR) during acute ischemia, we simultaneously evaluated global and regional function of the excised, cross-circulated canine left ventricle connected to a volume servo pump before and after coronary occlusion. Regional areas were determined with pairs of orthogonal subendocardial...
